Surrey Satellite Technology Ltd (SSTL) is delighted that the first two Galileo Full Operational Capability (FOC) spacecraft, carrying navigation payloads supplied by the Company, have been launched successfully today. The satellites were launched from Kourou, French Guiana on-board the medium-lift Soyuz launch vehicle operated by Arianespace.

13 August 2014: Data centres, server rooms and communication rooms seem a safe working environment – not so, according to lone worker alarm specialists SBES. Such areas often contain hidden dangers such as high voltages, trip hazards, confined spaces, heating and ventilation ducts and so on. Above all though, they are usually isolated areas where ICT staff are working alone, often at unsocial hours. Protection for lone workers working within such environments is of paramount importance, but is often overlooked.

TechDemoSat-1 video from orbit captures spectacular view of Earth and a flypast of the launcher

Surrey Satellite Technology Ltd (SSTL) has released a video from a camera mounted on an exterior panel of TechDemoSat-1, which shows the satellite moments after separation from the Fregat upper stage of its Soyuz-2 launcher, and as it begins its first orbit in Space. TechDemoSat-1 was launched on 8th July 2014, and is an in-orbit technology demonstration mission, carrying innovative payloads for British academia and industry.
